Official: OS 4.6.1.318 for the Curve 8520

The European carrier EPlus has officially released OS 4.6.1.318. Now I know what everyone is thinking, who cares about 4.6? And I have to agree. Today is Monday, December 28, there are 4 days left in the year, including today. At this point in time, it's gotten to the point where we have to ask carriers, why in the world do we not have an official 5.0 OS yet? There's been so many leaks, and taking so long, that any charm or good that would come as a result of OS 5.0 being officially released (besides the 9530), is greatly diminished. Though should any of us be surprised?

Leaked: OS 5.0.0.428 for the Storm 2 9520

Blackbery Messenger 5.0.0.57

The recently reported outages of BB messenger might be due to the fact that RIM is upgrading their popular messenger right now to version 5.0.0.57. Here in Europe the update does not propose any problems, contacts are still there, but transferring messages is still delayed (at least).

BlackBerry Messenger officially updated to 5.0.0.56

Hey, you remember when BBOS leaked 5.0.0.8 several months back? It was pretty hard to come by a BBM 5.0 build back then and we had to wait a long time to get a newer build. Wow how times have changed! Yes, it's true...another BBM update. Just days after making .55 official, RIM has pushed out another update and made .56 the "New Official" build of Messenger. Thanks to BlackberryOS member cnn888 who informed us of this. So whats new? Not sure yet. But we would love to hear if our members find anything new or fixed.

RIM Updates Blackberry IM Clients to v2.5.32

It would appear that Blackberry Messenger is not the only chat client to be receiving an update as RIM has updated all of its native IM clients to version 2.5.32. Not that much of a jump considering that they are coming from v2.5.31. Not really sure what has changed with this release. So feel free to stop by our forums and let us know.

RIM Leading U.S. Smartphone OS Market Share [News]

According to a monthly user survey by comScore, 36 million Americans own a smartphone while around 196 million own a “non-smartphone”. As of October, RIM leads the U.S. smartphone OS market share with close to 15 million users while while the followup brand, Apple, only has close to 9 million. The surveys are based on the responses of U.S. mobile subscribers over the age of 13.

And here I was thinking the race was a close one. I should have known I was wrong ;-) . After all…BlackBerry rocks. Congrats RIM!

How do you guys interpret these numbers? Did you think RIM was this far ahead of the competition or did you have your doubts?

Sprint Branded BlackBerry Essex/Tour2 9650 In The Wild! [Rumor]

We haven’t really seen too many photos of the upcoming BlackBerry Essex / Tour 2 and, to my knowledge, this is the first Sprint branded 9650 spotted in the wild.

Not much happening here but you get to see the upgraded version of the Tour 9630 with a Trackpad, OS 5.0, 3G, WiFi and CDMA enabled. Back in July I posted about the 9650 possibly being available in November/December, according to another rumor. December isn’t over yet so it’s still a possibility, but not to get your hopes up I’ll just guess at a release sometime early next year.

Anyone else hear anything about the BlackBerry 9650?

BlackBerry Pearl 8130 And Striker/Stratus 9100 Comparison Photos [Devices]

CrackBerry Kevin was sent some comparison photos of a BlackBerry Pearl (aka Status/Striker) 9100 with a Pearl 8130 from Telus. Any current Pearl 8100 series owners planning on getting the 9100 once it’s out? How about full QWERTY BlackBerry users, will you switch to SureType because of the 9100’s new form factor? Let me know in the comments!

Official: 5.0.0.351 for the Bold 9700

With all of the Bold 9700 leaks, surely a carrier would eventually release one of them officially. T-Mobile Germany has officially released OS 5.0.0.351. While not the highest build we've seen for the 9700, it is the highest official build. Though the higher leaked builds still may be better in some regards. Be sure to check the findings and fixes thread for more information about the build.

RingScheduler Automatically Changes the Profiles on your BlackBerry - 50 Free Copies

If you are like me, there are certain times of the day/night where you routinely change your BlackBerry's sound profile. In fact, quite often I find myself forgetting to change the profile back and missing calls and messages. CellAvant has created a solution to make controlling these profile changes easy and automatic. RingScheduler allows you to set what sound profile is active based on the day of the week, time of day, and many different calender options. For example, if my calender shows I have a meeting from 1pm-2:30pm, my BlackBerry will change to silent for that period of time allowing the meeting to go uninterrupted, based on my preset calender appointments profile. The application also gives you the option to set contact exceptions so that you will never miss those calls from your favorite or important contacts. RingScheduler is compatible with devices running OS 4.3+ and available for $2.99 from the CrackBerry App Store.

Contest: We have 50 free copies of RingScheduler to give away. Just leave a comment on this post to enter. Contest ends this Sunday at Midnight PST. Please only leave one comment - multiple entries won't count.

News from Loopt: Latest Version Now Also Available for BlackBerry Bold 9700 and Curve 8520/8530

* Update: You may need to wait until tomorrow before you can download from App World. Loopt updated the compatibility, but App World doesn't make changes like this in realtime, so you have to wait until the new updated cache kicks in. Keep checking back - it'll be there for your 9700 or Curve 8530/8520 soon enough! Thx for the patience. *

Nearly a month ago to the day, Loopt announced their biggest update to date for their BlackBerry app. At the time of that announcement, it was only available for the Bold 9000, Curve 8900 and Tour. Loopt hit us up and let us know about today's news:

Last month, Loopt launched a brand new version of Loopt for BlackBerry. Lots of people liked the new update - some even suggested it was better than our iPhone app. But, one thing we heard over and over again: "I want it, too!" We're excited to announce the new Loopt is now available on even more BlackBerry smartphones, including the BlackBerry Bold 9700, as well as the BlackBerry Curve 8520 & 8530.

No version for the Storm yet, but they are working on it (let's hope it's here soon). You can click here for a walk-through of all the features in the new Loopt for BlackBerry and follow the link below to download it now.
